Editorial responsibility
Who prepares Scam Pulse?
The IdentityPro editorial team researches, writes, and fact-checks each issue. The team summarizes public consumer-protection guidance; it does not provide personalized legal, tax, or investment advice.
Evidence
Which sources do we use?
We prioritize primary, publicly accessible sources from agencies responsible for the subject, including the Federal Trade Commission, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, Investor.gov, and the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Important statistics link directly to the source beside the claim, and every issue includes a complete source list.
Agency reports have limits. Consumer reports do not capture every scam or every dollar lost, and reporting interruptions or denominator rules can affect how a figure should be read. We state those limits when they materially affect an issue.
Selection
How do we choose the three scams?
We consider recency, potential harm, whether current official guidance is available, and whether a clear action can reduce risk. The three selected scams are not presented as a definitive ranking of the most common scams. We distinguish report counts from reported loss totals instead of treating them as the same measure.
Freshness
How are issues reviewed and corrected?
Each issue displays separate publication and last-fact-checked dates. We recheck source availability, material statistics, agency contact instructions, and reporting destinations before updating that review date. When a material correction changes the meaning of published guidance, we will identify the correction in the affected issue.
Commercial context
What are the limits of this guidance?
Scam Pulse is consumer education published on IdentityPro’s commercial website. IdentityPro is not a government agency, law firm, tax adviser, investment adviser, or law-enforcement agency. Product links are visually separated from editorial guidance. For a specific tax, investment, legal, or fraud-recovery problem, use the responsible agency or a qualified independent professional.
